U.S. Veteran

Mr. Robert Joe Johnson, Sr., age 71, of Martin died Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral service will be Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Central Baptist Church; 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow in East Side Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2012, at Central Baptist Church from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M., or after 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the church.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Judy Williams Johnson of Martin; his daughters, Kim (Nathan) Johnson Castleman of Martin and Cheri Johnson Spencer of Jackson, TN; his son, Rev. Joey (Jena) Johnson of Trenton, TN; his sister, Betty Jean Chappell of Martin; seven grandchildren, Joseph and Matthew Castleman, Taylor and Tanner Spencer, Emily, Erin and Laura Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Opal Goodin and Hillary Porter Johnson; his brothers, Tommy Johnson and William Harry Johnson, his sister, Margaret Helen Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a graduate of F.B.I. National Police Academy. He retired as Captain with UTM Police Dept., he formerly was Chief with the Department of Safety at Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS, formerly worked for the Martin Police Department and retired as Chief of Police for the Sharon, TN police department. He graduated from Martin High School, Dyersburg State College and Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was a veteran, U.S. Army, member of Martin Masonic Lodge #551 and a member of Central Baptist Church in Martin.
