Carol Murphey

Mr. Carol S. Murphey, age 95, formerly of Martin, TN, passed from this life on July 3, 2025, at his home in McKenzie, TN. He was born on July 20, 1929, son of the late John Sterling and Caroyln LaVicie Luttman Murphey in Rossville, TN, and served his country for three years in the United States Army. 

He married Louise Bishop of Whiteville, TN, on February 9, 1953. They lived in Prospect, TN, and Knoxville, TN, before settling in Martin in 1960, where he taught in the Agriculture Department at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He especially enjoyed the Ag Economics classes. The couple spent several summers and one year in Alcoa while Carol was attending graduate school at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. 

Carol taught bible classes for many years at the Martin Church of Christ. He had a great interest in church history and devoted much time to study, especially after his retirement. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly (Paul) Cooper of Memphis, and a son, Jeff (Nan) of Martin, TN. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Louise, and two younger brothers, James Henry and Murray C. Murphey.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Eastside Cemetery in Martin, TN, with Webb Hall officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
