Dr. Lonnie Maness

Dr. Lonnie Edward Maness, age 90, died Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at his residence in Martin.

Funeral service will Saturday, August 24, 2019, 11:00 A.M. at the Martin Church of Christ with Bro. Ricky Phillips officiating.  Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery in Wildersville, Tennessee.  Visitation will be Friday, August 23, 2019, 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at Murphy Funeral Home, or after 9:00 A.M. Saturday at the church until time of service.

Pallbearers are Danny Cash, Doug Monroe, Larry Kelly, Jimmy Kelly, Jimmy Wright and Charles Latta.  Honorary Pallbearers are Ron Ayers, Jeff Wright and Eddie Hutchens.

Dr. Maness was preceded in death by his wife, Brooksie Nell Altom Maness; his parents, Lonnie Maness and Ruby Jewel Fowlkes Maness, two sisters, Patricia Gerhardt and Louise Gerleve; two brothers, Glen and Edgar Maness.

Dr. Maness retired from The University of Tennessee at Martin after 37 years serving as Professor of History.  He was a member of the Martin Church of Christ.

He is survived by his children, Barbara (Kim) Stafford of Little Rock, Arkansas and Dr. David (Rose) Maness of Eads, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Derek Stafford and James David Maness; two great-grandchildren.
