Obituary

Mrs. Judith Ann "Judy" Gathers, age 83, and a resident of Martin, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at her residence.

She was born on February 21, 1943, in Belleville, Illinois, to the late James Lowell Habison and Anges Russell Harbison. Judith received her Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in mathematics from South Illinois University Cardondale in 1965 and a Master of Arts Degree in mathematics from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio in 1967. She spent 3 years teaching mathematics at Fulton City Highschool, Fulton, KY and over 25 years teaching in the Mathematics Department at the University of Tennessee at Martin. She was member of the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society and the First Baptist Church Martin, where she played the church organ for many years. Also, she loved playing the piano, oboe, and bason; sewing, gardening and traveling.

Judy is survived by her husband, Emery G. Gathers of 59 years; daughter, Ann Gathers (John) Sallee of Martin; son, Adam Gathers of Anderson, SC; grandsons, Noah Gathers of Anderson, SC and Liam Sallee of Martin; granddaughter, Katie Gathers of Anderson, SC.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Harbison.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 13, at 11:00 am at the Eastside Cemetery in Martin, friends and family are asked to gather at the cemetery. Dr. Mike Sams will officiate.
