Mildred C. Walker, 96, of Ft Worth, TX transitioned to her heavenly home on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Brookdale Tanglewood Oaks in Ft Worth, Texas. She was born in Martin, TN, where she attended school and graduated from Bruce’s Business Institute. Mildred worked hard toward achieving her career goal of becoming an administrative secretary. Her employment in the Martin community included: The Horn Implement Company, Weakley County Hospital, UT Martin, the Miller Company, and Northwest Tennessee Development District. Following her retirement, Mildred completed computer courses at Jackson State Community College and became an expert at sending emails, making cards, and doing online banking.
In her early years, Mildred’s beautiful voice gave her the opportunity to sing in a church acapella group, and yodel for special events. Mildred was a dance roller skater and an excellent bowler in the Martin ladies’ bowling league – talents that she continued to utilize for entertaining her grandsons.
Friends and family were precious to Mildred, since she was an only child. Her dear friends, Joyce Whitesides, Donna Smith Wright, Pat White, and Effie Wright, and the “Walker Clan” enjoyed many outings together over the years. Mildred was known for her delicious strawberry cake, boiled custard, and chocolate pies, which she frequently prepared for family Sunday dinners, holidays, birthday parties, and grandchildren’s overnight stays. She was an avid supporter of her grandsons’ tennis events, both locally and in other regions of the U.S. “Meemaw,” – the affectionate name given to her by her grandsons, Matthew and Lee Taylor- will be remembered for her hospitality, kindness, compassion for cats, and her faithfulness to the LORD. She was a jewel in the Walker family.
Mildred was a member of the Gardner Church of Christ and the Martin Church of Christ, where she developed many friendships. She is survived by son Dr. Danny Walker (Susie) of Ft. Worth, TX; grandsons: Matthew Walker (Valerie) of Miramar Beach, FL; Lee Taylor Walker (Erin) of Ft Worth, TX; Great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Violette, Lincoln, Lewis, and Samuel. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Raphael Walker.
