Pastor Wayne Spencer, age 74, and a resident of Martin, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City, TN. Pastor Wayne was born on February 23, 1951, to the late Vannie Spencer and Louise Runions Spencer in Hardin County, TN.
Pastor Wayne, a devoted member of the Pentecostal faith, served with compassion and humility for many years as the beloved Bishop at First United Pentecostal Church in Martin, TN, a former employee at Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company in Union City, TN for 33 years. He touched countless lives through his kindness, prayers, and unwavering guidance, always offering a listening ear and a helping hand to those in need. Pastor Wayne was dedicated to his family and church members. He was the former Home Missions Director, Founding Member of First United Pentecostal Church in 1975, and the Vice President of the Martin Ministerial Alliance. He married his lifelong love, Sylvia Pierce Spencer, on June 27, 1969, and together they built a strong and loving home, raising three cherished sons. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, whose faith and warmth shaped the lives of his family and congregation alike.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Pierce Spencer; three sons, Pastor David (Staci) Spencer of Martin, TN, Michael (Stacey) Spencer of Murfreesboro, TN, and Gary (Tanya) Spencer of Mountain View, MO; six grandchildren, Traci Spencer of Martin, TN, Joshua (Morgan) Spencer of Wentzville, MO. Chelsi (Richard) Nash of Bells, TN, Dylan Spencer of Murfreesboro, TN, Mary Spencer of Mountain View, MO, and Emma Spencer of Mountain View, MO; two great-grandchildren, Calvin Spencer and Laim Spencer both of Wentzville, MO; one brother, Glen (Ann) Spencer of Crump, TN and one sister-n-law, Peggy Spencer of Crump, TN.
In addition to his parents, Pastor Wayne is preceded in death by one sister, Mary Lou Newell, and two brothers, Howard Spencer and Leon Spencer.
Visitation will be on Saturday, November 15, 2025, beginning at 10:00 am until the hour of service at The First United Pentecostal Church in Martin, TN.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 1:00 pm at The First United Pentecostal Church in Martin, TN.
Burial to follow at Eastside Cemetery in Martin.
