Robert E. Chappell, 101, of Martin, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday May 18, 2025. Born in Martin on October 4, 1923, to Walter J. and Rosie Lois Stem Chappell, Robert lived a long and fulfilling life in the town he loved.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Robert was married to his beloved wife, Betty J. Chappell, for an extraordinary 77 years. His life was enriched by his family, and he will be deeply missed by his wife, Betty; granddaughter, Amy (Kevin) Chappell Austin of Northport, Alabama; and great-grandchild, Fallon Austin of Northport, Alabama.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II, demonstrating his unwavering patriotism and dedication. A lifelong resident of Martin, he was a member of Central Baptist Church and retired from Weakley County Motors as an auto body shop worker. His passions extended beyond his profession; he found immense joy in fishing, hunting, gardening, woodworking, boating, and tinkering with cars.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two sons, Eddie Chappell and Bobby Chappell; five brothers, Charles, Bransford, Roy, Curdean, and Emerson Chappell; and six sisters, Ruth Andrews, Rozell Loveall, JesseMae Pounds, Louise Travis, Locrelia Damron, and Maggie Edwards.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Murphy Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Eastside Cemetery in Martin, TN . Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, beginning at 2:00pm until the hour of service.
